Knife Attack Leads to Felony Charges

Albuquerque man charged in San Juan County stabbing, extortion case

An Albuquerque man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say he was involved in a stabbing and attempted extortion during a violent confrontation at a camper near Aztec earlier this month, according to court records.

Isaac J. Lister, 49, of Albuquerque, is charged with aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, extortion, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, attempt to commit armed robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit aggravated battery, records filed in San Juan County Magistrate Court show.

The charges stem from an incident reported Jan. 13 at a camper located on Lonesome Dove Road near Aztec.

What investigators allege

According to an affidavit for arrest warrant, sheriff’s deputies and detectives responded to investigate a reported stabbing at the camper, where they found blood inside the residence and signs of a violent struggle.

Investigators observed a pool of blood on the floor near a couch, blood leading toward a bathroom door, and additional blood outside the camper. Court records state the victim had sustained an apparent stab wound to the right shoulder and was bleeding from his ear and shoulder.

The victim was later interviewed at San Juan Regional Medical Center, where he received treatment for his injuries.

Alleged confrontation inside the camper

According to court documents, the victim told investigators that two men came to his camper after a dispute over money. He stated that after opening the door, the two men forced their way inside and physically attacked him.

The victim told detectives one of the men, identified by the nickname “Twister,” stabbed him with a knife that had a silver blade and black handle. He said he was thrown to the floor multiple times and threatened with further harm.

Court records state the victim reported being told his ear would be cut off and his eyes cut out if he did not sign over the title to his vehicle. Investigators wrote that the victim agreed to sign over the title in order to escape the situation.

The victim said he was eventually able to flee through the bathroom door and drive to another residence in Aztec, where non-emergency dispatch was contacted.

Identification of suspects

During the investigation, detectives learned that Isaac Lister was known by the nickname “Twister,” according to court records. Investigators wrote that the victim described the attacker as a tall, thin white male with a goatee, a description they said was consistent with Lister’s prior booking photographs.

Court documents also indicate investigators interviewed another man in connection with the incident. That individual acknowledged going to the camper but provided statements that minimized his involvement, according to the affidavit.

Based on the victim’s account, physical evidence observed at the scene, and information obtained during follow-up interviews, investigators concluded there was probable cause to charge Lister with the listed offenses.

Court records further show Timothy Ray Fowler, 48, of Aztec, has also been charged in connection with the same investigation. Jail and court records indicate Fowler was booked into the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on Jan. 22 and is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges filed under a separate case number.

The charges against Fowler include offenses such as aggravated burglary, robbery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, extortion, larceny, and battery, among others, according to court records.

Court filings indicate Fowler’s charges stem from the same alleged criminal episode that led to charges being filed against Lister. While the charging documents list multiple counts, court records do not yet outline Fowler’s specific actions beyond what is alleged in the broader investigation. All charges remain pending.

Charges Filed

An arrest warrant for Lister was approved and filed Jan. 20 in San Juan County Magistrate Court. Court records show that case also remains pending.

Both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
